Guitar Restoration Part 5
Sanding and more sanding. Stripping back the original paint and varnish is easy with the electric tools, but the neck needs to be treated more delicately.
New Demo Tunes
Just recorded and uploaded some new demo songs - Check out the Homepage or visit the Songs page…
Guitar Restoration Part 4
First time my son used power tools, so he was very excited to learn. When your at this stage, there isn’t much that can go wrong…
Guitar Restoration Part 3
Using screw drivers and pliers was a highlight for him as he watched his sacred treasure systematically taken apart. Each piece separated, cataloged and carefully analysed as he was learning the fundamentals of the instruments construction in reverse.
Guitar Restoration Part 2
Day 2 was fun… We went online and shopped for new components. I took my son to a guitar store to show him the possibilities, and he immediately wanted to change the look of the guitar.
Guitar Restoration Part 1
It was 7 January 2023 and you now have the origins of ‘Rocky’ the Guitar, so let me provide a list of the extensive issues facing us during this restoration:
Buried Treasure
An old 3/4 sized electric guitar. It has four rusted strings, missing tuning peg, rusted out jack input, loose and twisted bridge, dropped pickup and no strap buttons. Covered in dents, scratches, grit and grime.
Operations
I’ve been out of action for over two months due to a hernia which needed to be fixed. It’s surprising how a simple action like lifting a baby can cause some serious injury and restrict your movement.
Winter Blues
Surrounded by small kids coming home from playgroups and school with minor bugs, it seems that every couple weeks there is a running nose or cough or fever in the house
Back at it
Took some time off through June to allow my voice to rest and recover. Singing songs repeatedly during rehearsal is taxing
New Set List
Putting together a new setlist compiled of acoustic renditions of popular pop songs from the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. There are so many great songs to choose from, but not all are going to work.
Recording Studio
The world has changed dramatically in the past decade. Recording used to be an expensive exercise where to get a decent quality Demo, EP or Album you would need to hire a an engineer and studio for days.
New songs, new setlist
Putting together a new setlist is fun but can be extremely annoying. You could spend days learning and practicing a song you love only to realise it just won’t work live. So you will need to include several ‘punter'-friendly’ songs, most of them will not be to your taste.
Re-String Acoustic Guitars
One of the worst things when playing is to hear your beloved guitar start to lose its resonance. A simple Re-String to revamp an Acoustic Guitars sound does the trick. Problem is, it is time consuming and I’m not a huge fan of the process.
New website building in progress
Building a new website to get a break from rehearsal. So far I have 13 songs performance ready and am only 3 weeks into building the new setlist. Fingers hurt and voice is a bit raspy from too much practice, so this is a good outlet to stay focused on job at hand.
